MAWHA FAQ

Managers

Are there any instructions that I can use to assist my team managers and parent volunteers on how to accurately complete the MAWHA Girls' Youth League score sheets?

Yes, detailed information will be made available on this website in the near future.

I'm a new manager for a MAWHA team; where can I learn more about what I am expected to do?

All MAWHA Team Managers are encouraged to review the Manager's Manual. The Manager's manual can be found on the "About Us" page in the right hand hand section bar.

Where do I locate MAWHA League Game Numbers?

MAWHA League Game Numbers were provided to the Schedulers for each organization to be distributed to the individual team managers.  Please contact your organization's scheduler for a list of your MAWHA League Game Numbers.  If your scheduler did not retain a copy of the Game Number list you may request another copy of the League Game Numbers from the MAWHA Statistician.  Please be sure to include your organization/team name, age and division (e.g. Montgomery Blue Devils 12U Granato).

Players

Can a player be rostered on two MAWHA Girls' Youth League teams at the same time?

No, a player may not be rostered on more than one MAWHA Girls' Youth League team at one time.  Rare exceptions may be made in the case of girls being rostered simultaneously on both a Potter and a Ruggeiro division team but these are unique situations and require the approval of the League Commissioner.

How do I add a player to my MAWHA Girls' Youth League team roster?

Please add any new player to your previously submitted MAWHA Girls' Youth League roster. Please highlight the new player in bold font so they are easy to identify. Please ensure that players are listed in numerical order on the roster submission form. PLEASE NOTE: Newly added players who play in MAWHA Girls' Youth League Games will NOT be credited with that game for purposes of calculating Playoff Eligibility unless the MAWHA Statistician is notified of their addition to the official team roster prior to first League Game in which they participate. If you fail to notify the MAWHA Statistician of any addition to your roster your player may still receive credit for the game played if you submit a copy of your official USA Hockey registration roster for that team so long as the roster is stamped as having been received by your District Registrar prior to the date of the player's first League Game with your team. Otherwise players will not be documented as having played the game for the purposes of Playoff Eligibility even if they are credited with a point, assessed a penalty or played in goal.

How many games does a player have to play in order to be eligible to participate in the MAWHA Girls' Youth League Playoffs?

The player participation rules apply to eligibility to participate in MAWHA Girls' Youth League Playoffs and the Atlantic District Playoffs. The player participation requirements for MAWHA players to the USA Hockey 10/14 rule defining eligibility for MAWHA and Atlantic District Playoff participation.

I have a player on my MAWHA Granato or Ruggeiro division team who also plays for a boys' team/girls' independent team; what is the rule about declaring their intentions with regard to being nationally-bound for District Playoffs?

Please note the answer below applies to District level playoffs only and does not apply to MAWHA Girls' Youth League Playoffs.  All players that are rostered on more than one national-bound team must declare which team they will be nationally bound with no later than 31 December of the playing seaqson.  This requirement would apply to any player on a MAWHA Granato or Ruggeiro division team who rostered on another non-MAWHA nationally-bound team.  This would include players who play on any AAA Major or AA level team at the Bantam age level or higher.  Players who play on AAA Minor, A or B level teams are generally not considered to be nationally-bound. Please note that if a player is registered with two nationally-bound teams and fails to declare with which team they will be nationally-bound the District Registrar will assume that the player is nationally-bound with the team that submitted their registration to the District first. If you have any questions please contact your District Registrar.

My goalie is unable to make an AWAY game (Granato and Ruggeiro).  Can I ask the HOME team to provide a goalie for my team?

No, you may not use any player who is not rostered on your official USA Hockey or MAWHA Girls' Youth League roster to play in any MAWHA Girls' Youth League games in the Red or White divisions.  If your goalie is unable to attend an AWAY game you have the option of dressing another player currently on your roster as a goalie for that game, playing with 6 skaters on the ice and an empty net or trying to re-schedule the game.  Games can only be re-scheduled with the approval of the Girls' Youth League Commissioner.

What is the last date a player can be added to the team roster?

Roster changes are allowed up to 31 December of the playing season season. All roster changes must be submitted to USA Hockey and to MAWHA prior to any newly added players playing in a MAWHA Girls' Youth League game.

Coaches

Can a coach sit on the bench during league games before (s)he gets the coaching card?

The minimum requirement to be on the bench is Level 1. A coach can go on the bench with a Level 1 as long as (s)he is working towards the next level for that particular team. Once a coach has a card, (s)he can be on the bench, but (s)he also MUST fill out the screening form on the Atlantic District website.

Rosters

Can a player be rostered on two MAWHA Girls' Youth League teams at the same time?

No, a player may not be rostered on more than one MAWHA Girls' Youth League team at one time. Rare exceptions may be made in the case of girls being rostered simultaneously on both a Potter and a Ruggeiro division team but these are unique situations and require the approval of the League Commissioner.

How should I list my players - in alphabetical order, grouped by position or in numerical order?

Please list all players in numerical order in the roster section of the score sheet. This order speeds data entry and reduces errors in terms of making sure players get credit for the games that they have played. It is not necessary to list the players' positions on the score sheets, with the exception of the goalies.

Score Sheets

What are the most common errors on the MAWHA Girls' Youth League score sheets?

Most common errors include: Failure to include the name and jersey number of the AWAY team goalie(s). This error will result in the score sheet data not being entered for either team until the HOME team obtains the name and jersey number of the AWAY team goalie(s) and provides them to the statistician. Failure to reconcile the numbers of players credited with goals and assists against the rosters on the score sheets to confirm that the number being referenced by the official corresponds to a player on the roster for that game. This error will result in the score sheet data not being entered for either team until the HOME team obtains the correct name and jersey number of the player in question and provides that information to the statistician.

What do I do if one of my players wears a jersey other than their usual jersey for any given game?

Please list the player on the score sheet in numerical order based on their usual jersey number on the roster. Then draw one line through the player's usual jersey number and write their temporary jersey number next to their usual jersey number.

Statistics

I am a parent and I believe the stats are incorrect on the web site; what can I do?

Please note that the stats are entered from score sheets that have been signed by the referee(s) who officiated the game. Stats will only be changed from what is recorded on the score sheet if an obvious error was made in the transcription of the game details onto the score sheet. For example, if the referee credits player # XX with a goal or assist however there is no player # XX on the official MAWHA team roster nor is any player recorded as temporarily wearing # XX for the game in question. In that circumstance the MAWHA Statistician will contact the Team Managers for the HOME and AWAY teams to clarify which player should be correctly credited with the point. Both HOME and AWAY Team Managers have to agree to the correction before it will be published in the database. At no time are parents to submit their own statistics to the Statistician in order to effect a change in the game stats; this includes shots on goal faced by a goalie, etc. If a parent has a question about the game stats as they are reported in the database they are to raise the question to their Team Manager who should review the game score sheet to ensure that the game stats were entered correctly into the database. If it is determined that a true error occurred in the transcription of the score sheet into the stats database the Team Manager should contact the MAWHA Statistician for clarification. All correspondence will be between the MAWHA Statistician and the Team Manager or Coaching staff only.

Why don't the stats from our recent game appear on the stats web site?

Stats for any given game may not appear for any number of reasons, including: a. The score sheet may not have been submitted by the HOME team manager in a timely manner. All score sheets are required to be post-marked within 3 days of the date of the game. b. The Statistician may be out of town and unable to complete input of received score sheets for a few days after receipt. c. The score sheet may be incomplete or inaccurate delaying the entry of accurate game statistics. If this is the case the MAWHA Statistician will contact the HOME and AWAY team managers to address any issues that impact correct and accurate data entry of game stats.
